h: 60 w: 60 d: 2 (cms).

This artwork is inspired by sketches made of a painting in a local art museum “Portrait of a young girl” by Thérèse Duchâteau, 1897. The additional modern day young lady posed in my studio and has been drawn in pencil with white Conté crayon highlights. This artwork is inspired by the 19th century artwork and has been interpreted to tell a different story. The viewer of this artwork can only imagine what is written in the letter.

This artwork is inspired by sketches made of a painting in a local art museum “The abduction of Princess Europe”. This painting has been taken from a larger painting of the Greek myth, “Metamorphoses d’Ovide”, by Guido Reni and a collaborator. My modern day collaborator in this scene posed in the studio and has in drawn in pencil and white Conté crayon. The myth tells a story about transformation, love, anger and punishment and my added character is simply a viewer caught up in the scene.
