I tried with this piece to replicate (in a very understated way ) not only the sense of light starting to come back into the day from behind what were the darkened heavy water Laden storm clouds, but I also attempted to bring in the aftermath of the distructive forces of the event, so through bruising and tearing the surface of the paper in a downward direction etc... Also the roughness in the execution of this piece. It is of course also a self portrait, I felt lost and directionless and at the whim of whatever life threw at me at the time of doing this, I hope that people will see the overall emotional aspect of this piece and maybe will ask "what is his story?" And maybe be able to connect in some way?

Fine Line Pens on Yupo Paper

I hoped to convey a sense of quiet hope, as of someone who has been waiting so long for the return of a loved one. In the use of this lighting I was hoping that this would add to the mood of this piece. I hope that people viewing this work can somehow connect with this, in the longing and waiting to see someone we care about comes so many memories and all the emotional landscape we inhabited together the good and the difficult, we suppress a lot in these hopeful moments of waiting, the moment may be still but the mind is not. "What is his story?"

Fine Line Pens, and Acrylic Paint

There are times that we seek solitude, sometimes as a treat and at others a deep need even can be when it is not convenient.... Beneath the chaos to find to calm to find the you again, not the shown image or put on act of a person you would like to be seen as, this could be an essential way to protect yourself not out of want decive.... This man is retreating slowly hiding but this is not necessarily physically speaking this could just as well be mentally withdrawing from a moment, he may be feeling overwhelmed, something may have happened that he can't face talking about, we all deal with things in our own way. But it could be just a need for a moment of his own. I have used the lighting and the downward facing head to hopefully capture and add a sense of emotional drama to this piece. I hope that those seeing this can somehow relate in some way!
