A blind-embossed stack seeking light in a time of extreme darkness. The prototype Quadrature of the Circle-Unbuilding Blocks [QoC-UB] (held in the British Museum, Royal Collection & Ashmolean Museum) was designed to celebrate the RE Bicentennial, a touring exhibition REbels. UB-QoC [2025] inverts & reveals the structural system of support (with a few imperfections) hidden around the central motif. Representing the strong network of family & friends that helps survival & emergence from a pit of darkness. [6 individual prints within the stack available for sale]

An ongoing series of prints paying homage to Piranesi, probably the first ‘paper architect’. Paper architects were visionaries who designed utopian or dystopian fantasies that remain unbuilt. This work was inspired by the drawings of Peter Cook of the unbuilt elevator tower designed for Expo 67 (World Fair) in Montreal. The blueprint plans for our first home were drawn up 40 years ago, and remained unbuilt due to the prevailing civil war in my native country. The prototype of this series was awarded the Prix de Print in ART IN PRINT USA by K Alkauskas, Senior Curator of PRINTS, MoMA New York USA.

The phrase describes the inability to see the whole situation, the bigger picture, by only focussing on the details. There is much speculation on the origin of the phrase, and it is believed to have originated in the works of English writer John Heywood around 1546. However there is a reference to the phrase in a work by Thomas More, dated 1533. A variable edition.
